The Prambanan temple” is one of the largest Hindu temples in south Asia. It is situated in a site that is dedicated as a world heritage site by UNESCO, 18Kms east of Yogyakarta. It is mainly dedicated to three main gods.

That is Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva. Because of the size of this temple, it can be seen from a very long distance, and apart from these main three shrines, there are more than 200 shrines within the premises. In front of each main temple, there is a small temple on the east side. They are dedicated to the mounts of the respective gods.

Some of these temples are ruined and Indonesians take a great effort to protect them. As per the archeologists, this place was built around 800CE and it has a great legend .it called the legend of “Lara Joggrang”.

The reconstruction of the temple started in 1918 and was completed in 1953. Anyhow this great precious place was damaged due to an earthquake that occurred in 2006 and due to the damages, the temple premises was closed to people and after a couple of weeks, it reopened to the public.
