“Merapi” is one of the active volcanos in Indonesia. Although Indonesia has more than 120 volcanoes’, this has been regularly erupting since 1548 and finally, it erupted in 2008 even. Almost every day of the year, we can see the smoke around the volcano. Anyhow, only several times it causes significant damage.

Researchers about volcanoes’ have found that volcano was active even before more than 400000 years. Currently, this volcano gets active once in two or three years and it makes major eruptions once in 15 – 20 years. In 1930, it erupted again and caused severe damage, including 1400 human deaths and 13 villages were totally destroyed.

In 2006 also this attractive volcano was active and lava flowing started authorities were in touch with its activities and they have already warned the respective villagers who live around this dangerous volcano. Because of their quickness and accurate warning the villagers manage to save their lives.

The lava flowing took a long time to finish and after that, some villagers managed to get back to their usual places, but by that time most of the places are destroyed or covered with lava and they had to start all their work from the beginning.

When we consider about farming and planting around the above place, the foil is covered with lava and men had to take a lot of effort to remove those lava coats and start their work. Anyhow they managed to do that and now this place has become a historical place with a tourist attraction without any doubt.
